There’s No One Way

There are so many “how to” answers thrown out at us today:

  • How to get rich
  • How to be healthy
  • How to create a life of freedom
  • How to be successful

And on and on. We are constantly bombarded with people telling us: “Here’s how I did it; follow these 10 steps and you can do it too!” It’s so natural to want to believe them. It’s so easy to latch on to one magic formula, one downloadable document, one subscription, or one 3-step guide that is served to us on a magical silver platter.

But the truth is, it just doesn’t work that way. There is no one way to achieve or do anything. What works for some may not, and most likely will not, work for you in the exact same way. The truth is there is no one size fits all — especially when it comes to achieving goals, attaining personal growth, or discovering your authentic self and purpose.

It doesn’t work that way simply because we are all unique individuals, with different make-ups, different backgrounds, different traits, skills, frustrations, strengths, weaknesses, talents, values, and authenticity. It doesn’t work that way because your end result and your destination will always be different than someone else’s; just as your path and your journey to get there will.

They say it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. Well, I say it’s about both. You choose your destination, and you create your journey. You can certainly borrow from others, learn from and model others, but you take from others and you make it your own. You take one thing from here, another from there, you add in a touch of your own thing, you mesh them up and you create your own magical sauce — your masterpiece. You create your way.

And, that’s what the journey is actually all about. Figuring out and discovering and creating your authentic self, what’s right for you, and what works for you. What’s more, that too will change and will continue to evolve as you continue to create and grow yourself. What works for you today, what’s right today, what’s authentic and true for you today may not be so tomorrow.

There’s no one right way. There’s your way. There’s my way. And that’s a beautiful thing. You can’t just mimic someone else’s path — because the journey itself is figuring out what your individual path is, and what your way is.
