Bobby Umar kicked off his live Periscope chat after just returning home from a successful trip to Abu Dhabi where he presented one of his amazing leadership speaking engagements.
The topic of the April 7th live chat for Seyopa was titled, “How To Make The Right Decisions” and subsequently how to use your passion when making decisions.
How do you know if you’re making the right decisions?
It was Benjamin Franklin who once said, “If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins.” Bobby Umar couldn’t agree more!
Bobby believes every decision is based on rationale. It’s important to recognize that effective decision-making is strategic and cannot be found without some sort of quantitative and/or qualitative rationale. When you are contemplating decisions, be sure to ask the question, WHY?
Knowing how to make the right decision is also based on a feeling. How does this decision literally make you feel? What does your gut say? What does your head say? What about your heart and your soul? Visceral feelings stirred up internally tell us a lot about what kind of decision we need to make. Bobby shared with the chat group how invested he gets before he speaks publicly. He told the gang on the scope that his palms get sweaty and his stomach fills with butterflies. These are all good signs that he is committed and following his passion. His gut helps him lead!
Another way to know if you are making the right decision in order to seize your passion is to ask for feedback from a network of support. Find people you trust and ask them for an honest critique. Many years ago Bobby contemplating leaving his job because he wasn’t happy but wanted some sound advice before leaving. He confided in those he trusted and the support he received from them validated the instinct he already had inside.
Bobby wrapped up the chat by asking the viewers to think about the people they are inspired by. “Who do you admire? Who do you want to learn from or be like?” He asked. If you find individuals whom you look up and respect their decision making abilities it can help you in your own decision making abilities. It’s important to listen and learn from others you admire. Ask questions and share thoughts. This is a great way to help determine if you are making right and rational decisions.
